Map of Science

ETO's Map of Science collects and organizes the world’s research literature, revealing key trends, hotspots, and concepts in global science and technology.

The Map of Science includes over 130 million scholarly publications from around the world, algorithmically organized into over 116 thousand research clusters. These clusters are groups of papers that cite each other a lot - typically because they share other things in common, such as subject matter, language of publication, or other important characteristics. By filtering clusters according to growth over time, key topics, countries, and other characteristics, you can quickly pinpoint scientific trends and communities.

In the default map view, hovering over on a cluster will show basic information about the cluster in the right sidebar. Use the controls in the left-hand sidebar to filter visible clusters according to different variables. To view more information about a cluster, click on it to open its detail view.

Switch to list view to view the clusters in the Map in a table. You can add and remove columns, or click on individual rows to access the detail view. Summary view displays summary information for all clusters meeting the current set of filters.

The Map of Science may be used solely for non-commercial research purposes and may not be downloaded, copied, or extracted using web scrapers or other automated or semi-automated means. The Map of Science contains metrics derived from data provided by third parties including Clarivate Analytics and East View Information Services, as well as data sourced from Dimensions, an inter-linked research information system provided by Digital Science (http://www.dimensions.ai).
